I noticed today a new Knowledge Base article posted to the VMware site titled “How To Configure Networking from the Service Console Command Line” [link].
I draw your attention to this particular tip because it is one of the most common problems I come across here at VMware Tech Support. I must walk at least one customer per day through this, which from start to finish sometimes takes up to an hour, depending on the customer’s comfort level and the noise levels in their server room. Usually, by the end of the call, the veins in my forehead are popping from shouting phonetics over the phone. “I said Echo Sierra, not Gecko Tiara!!”
Anyway, bookmark this article for that day you ask: How can I get networking back up for my ESX Server host when I have access only to the service console? It has been long overdue.
